Jesus walked the earth, living a sinless life. He died for our sins on the cross, and the Father raised Him to life after three days. We then, through faith, repent of our sins and turn, choosing to follow and obey Him, becoming a new creation. This is the gist of the gospel.
One of the greatest revelations of my life was finding how intricately Jesus fulfilled the Passover feast. He truly was our Passover lamb. Praise God! When the Israelites were to celebrate their first Passover, they had to mark their doors with the blood of the lamb, gather themselves within those walls, and then the Lord passed over. After this took place, they followed Him out of Egypt, and He showed them how to live through His commands. We, much the same way, are saved from destruction through the blood of Jesus, and then follow Him out of our sins, learning how to live according to His commands.
In the story of Rahab (Joshua 2), I see a picture of this same sort of Passover...this same sort of Gospel. Rahab has heard of the Lord (YHWH). Rahab is a Gentile. She is within the nations that the Lord is about to destroy. But clearly, she believes. She decides to help the spies Joshua sends into the land, and, in return, asks for them to spare the lives of her family members. They instruct her to tie a scarlet (red) cord to the window she lets them down out of and gather all of her family members inside. None that leave her house will be saved. Passover. Can you see it? The red of the cord...the red of the blood...the blood of the Lamb. The family gathered within...safe because they were marked. Rahab, through her faith, is saved. Her actions prove her faith, and her obedience lands her in the family line of the Messiah Himself.
The Father has been making a way for us to be a part of His people and His plan from the beginning. May we all be marked and our faith result in obedience.
